Between apples and castles
Visiting the cultivations of apples could be the occasion to discover historical and natural beauties of this place: near Segno, in Vigo di Bon, there is Thun Castle, one of the most famous manners of Trentino, with its defensive towers, its Renaissance loggias and the painting and frescoes expositions. Going on with the road, you'll find other important manners that tell you the history of the valley, as the Clesio's Castle, noble and illustrious Trentino family, Malgolo Castle, in the homonymous hamlet, and Castelfondo Castle, stuck on a cliff. In Sanzeno, near Saint Giustina Lake, it is possible to visit the Saint Romedio Sanctuary. Stuck on a rock high more than 70 metres, it was built and enlarged during the centuries. Outside it gives hospitality to some brown bears, reminding one of the most miracles of the Saint: the legend says that Saint Romedio rode a bear that killed her horse, and then that bear became suddenly docile.
It is also possible to visit some agricultural zones, as in Castelfondo, where is the Social Dairy. It produces local typical cheeses: Nostrano of the Val di Non, Boscaiola, Fior d'Alpe, Grana Trentino and the Caciottine.
Besides art and gastronomy, the valley shows also some natural attractions: one of the most suggestive geological formations to see is the canyon of Fondo, just under the village. The overhang to reach the bottom of the gorge is higher than 50 metres. It follows the torrent until a spectacular fall of 70 metres generated from the water of Rio Novella.
You can have an other breath-taking view from the Mendola Pass, along the Ferdinando Walk, from where you'll have a wonderful view on the Adige Valley. Going on with the walk you can reach the peak of the Mount Penegal, from where the view becomes complete, going from Brenta Dolomites to Ortles Cevedale, Sciliar and Marmolada.
