Pozza di Fassa

The village is located at the confluence of the brook San Nicolò, on the largest point of the valley. Thanks to the formidable development of the tourism industry, Pozza become one of the more appreciate winter and summer resorts of the Dolomites, with a consequent growth of the building industry and the artistic craftsmen: in fact the Ladin art is renowned, as the art of the furniture, the wood, the iron, and the painters-decorators.
Pozza is also the starting point for the excursions on the characteristic Valle di San Nicolò and on the Mountain Groups of Monzoni and Marmolada.
The municipality includes the village of Pera, on the right bank of the river Avisio, and Mèida, on the left bank, at the mouth of the Valle di San Nicolò. It is the most populous and the widest municipality of the valley.
In spite of its big building development, Pozza keeps its local traditions, with the houses adorned with monumental wooden galleries and floors.
Among the oldest buildings of the village, there are house Zulian, with a fresco representing the crucifixion (1658);and house Polam, with its coat-of-arms. The church , dedicated to Maria Ausiliatrice, was built in 1957 by the architect Dario Albertini of Trento. The church shows a high bell-tower. Inside there are interesting works of holy art. Nearby there is the old 17° century Tower (Torn). The old church of S. Nicolò is located on the high part of the village, in Mèida, it has a steep tile-roof, and dates back to the 15° century.
