A wonder of the nature, an enchanting show

"A wonder of the nature, an enchanting show". So Goethe described this place in September 1786. Goethe was 37 years old and getting in touch with the blue expanse of Lake Garda and the silver olive-groves, he experienced for the first time the mild climate of the places extolled by the Classics, and he believed to have achieved happiness.
The village of Torbole clings to the calcareous rocks on the extreme north-west slope of Mount Baldo, which is well-known in Europe thanks to the richness of its flora; it lies close to the mouth of the River Sarca and its houses are set as an amphitheatre around the small gulf, in front of Mount Rocchetta and the Ledro Alps.
The actual tourist centre evolved in the second half of the last century from an old village of fishermen, farmers and mountaineers, into a seasonal health-resort for European travellers, like the neighbouring Riva and Arco. Thanks to its windy position, getting the wind Ora, and to the prohibition of navigation, it has become a renowned sailing and windsurfing centre.
The more picturesque nook is its small harbour with the nice old House of the duty, a testimony of the past Venetian domination. Rising along the flight of steps of the “Picalòf”, it is possible reaching the hill of S. Andrea, where it the homonym church facing on a suggestive panorama.
